An Indonesian
court jailed hardline islamic cleric Rizieq Shihab on Thursday 24 June 2021 for
four years for spreading false information in a youtube video saying that he
was healthy despite having tested positive for COVID-19.
This
started with Rizieq Shihab's return from Saudi Arabia on November 10, 2021 at
Soekarno Hatta Airport. his arrival sparked a crowd that was attended by
thousands of people. He returned last year from self-imposed exile in Saudi
Arabia, where he had fled while facing charges of pornography and insulting the
state ideology. In the other hand, he was also breaching coronavirus curbs
during several mass events, including his daughter’s wedding, which was
attended by thousands of people. The court also sentenced Rizieq’s son-in-law,
Hanif Alatas, to two years imprisonment for being an accessory to the crime.
My
own idea/perspective.
In my opinion, we cannot deny that this case is
related to political motives. Why do I say that, because there are a lot of
people out there who are making a crowd during this pandemic but not getting
the same punishment. As an example, when there were regional head elections in
several places in Indonesia, there were still some participants in this
election who carried out campaigns that invited many people. In the other hand,
KPI also mentioned that there were some television program that breaching the
protocol of Covid 19. Morover if we see a lot of people in various places who
hold events that bring many people, for example wedding parties.
Then
what is the reason that FPI in this case especially to Habib Rizieq Shihab
getting unfair treatment? In my opinion, this is a long thread in several
political events that have occurred which we might be able to shorten the
“gong” occurred during the case of blasphemy that committed by a public
official who is also a participant in the regional head election.
He
said several sentences that offended some Muslims in Indonesia, and sparked a
massive demonstration that took place in the capital Jakarta. One of the
leaders who commanded this action was Habib Rizieq Shihab. In short, the
regional official who was also a participant in the regional head election was
sentenced to one year and eight months and fifteen days in prison.
This triggered
a tremendous political grudge, because at that time the convict of the
blasphemy case had a fairly high electability in society and several survey
institutions stated that he was superior to the other candidates. However, this
immediately turned around when this blasphemy case occurred, the defendant lost
many votes because of the inherent issues, moreover he was sentenced to almost
two years, to be exact, one year and eight months and fifteen days.
After
this incident slowly began to appear political replies to Habib Rizieq Shihab,
some of them were cases of slanderous chat with a woman whose evidence was not
strong and in my perspective this was a killing character against Habib Rizieq
Shihab. In addition, there was also other slanderous that stated that Habib
Rizieq and several Islamic community organizations were anti-pancasila
ideology. Several videos of Habib Rizieq Shihab's lectures were cut and then spreaded
to social media which aims to make a framing that Habib Rizieq Shihab is a
person who is anti-pancasila ideology.
These
slanders were thrown up until when Habib Rizieq Shihab went to hajj to the holy
land of Mecca, he could not return to Indonesia and was detained there for
several years. Until then Habib Rizieq Shihab returned on November 10, 2020 then
faced with cases of breaching the protocols.
In
addition, I also think that the accusations pinned to Habib Rizieq Shihab are
ridiculous. How can a person who is waiting for his test results to come out
and he doesn't feel any indication, then being asked by the media and he said
that he is healthy can be counted to be lying?
Conclusion
As I said before this case are closely related to
political motives. And my point is this case is weird, Habib Rizieq Shihab can’t
be counted that he is lying, he was waiting his test result and then feel any
indication, he is also didn’t know if he got positive when he said it because
the result was not out yet.
